Tipu V. Khan, MD, FAAFP, FASAM

Dr. Tipu earned his BA in Philosophy and his BS in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior from UC Davis. He went on to earn his MD from the University of Washington with a certificate in The Underserved Pathway. Dr. Khan completed his residency training at Harbor/UCLA and an Obstetrics fellowship at CHMC/USC.

His clinical practice includes management of addiction across all age groups: from adults to adolescents to pregnancy as well as neonatal withdrawal management. He is recognized by the California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) as an expert on managing addiction in pregnancy and trains others.

He is a board certified Addiction Specialist and a leader in the delivery of full spectrum addiction services. He serves on numerous local, state, and national committees and speaks regularly as an Addiction Specialist. Dr. Tipu is the fellowship director of Ventura County’s Primary Care Addiction Medicine Fellowship, which trains new and upcoming Addiction Specialists.

Dr. Tipu has created and honed many of the pathways for tele-addiction care and is a recognized expert in non-classical delivery models of addiction: from tele-addiction to addiction treatment of the homeless on the streets of Ventura County. He has authored numerous papers, chapters in textbooks, and professional toolkits throughout his career.

Dr. Tipu was named the 2018 California Family Physician of the Year, a distinguished honor as well as the 2019 University of Washington School of Medicine Alumni Humanitarian award recipient.

He enjoys spending time with his kids, endurance running and Jiu-Jitsu.
